How it works
The long version, for the skeptic.
Fair position. Many quit gambling apps ask you to describe your problem and then repeat it back. Lessen doesn't ask. It reads. Here's the whole mechanism, start to finish.
01
You connect the books you actually use.
DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars. Most major US books and prediction markets, up to three at once. One sign-in each, through a secure connector. Read-only: it can see slips, it cannot touch money. The full security page covers this.

Up to three books. One sign-in each. Slips come in; nothing goes out.
02
It reads up to a year of your real history.
Every slip your books still hold. Stake, time, sport, outcome. This is the part a journal can't do: the betting record isn't self-reported, so nothing on a connected book is softened, rounded, or forgotten. The model starts from what those books show.
One real pattern: a loss, then two bigger bets inside an hour.
03
It builds your pattern from your real bets.
The model looks at when you bet, not just how much: which weekdays, which hours, what happens after a loss, how runs start and end. Out of that comes a small set of high-risk windows that are specifically yours. Thursday 10pm is not a national statistic, it's your Thursday.
HeaviestHeavyLightSample. Yours comes from your own slips.
04
It flags the risky periods coming up, and says why.
Each flagged window carries its reason in plain words. After a loss, late at night, the first weekend of the month. You see them days ahead, so a warning doesn't feel random. Each one is an estimate from your past pattern, not a forecast that you will bet.
For many people the riskiest windows are late at night, so that's when Lessen is most awake. Daytime, it recalculates quietly as new slips sync.
05
It reaches you right before, not after.
When a window is about to open, your phone buzzes once: a short list of things to do instead, what's worked for you before at the top. You can take one, talk it through with Les, or dismiss it. The choice stays yours; Lessen never blocks anything.
Your Thursday window opens soon.
A ten-minute walk has carried you through 4 of the last 5. Or talk it through with Les.
06
It learns from what you do, and measures the change.
Take the walk, and the walk moves to the top of the list next time. Ignore a nudge, and it tries something else. The options get shorter and more like you.
Change is measured the same way the risk was found. From the slips on your connected books: windows passed clean, spend against your old rate, the gap between bets getting longer. The numbers show what changed. They do not prove what caused it.

07
It helps right now, too.
Not every urge waits for a predicted window. Tap “About to bet?” on the home screen and the same three moves open at once, no alert needed.
If the urge is still there, “Lock me down” walks you through closing off the next 24 hours in about five minutes. Lessen can’t lock your phone or your accounts, so it shows you exactly how to do it yourself.
- Delete the sportsbook apps from this phone
- Log out of the sportsbook websites
- Take a 24-hour break at each book
- Withdraw the balance and take the saved card off
- Tell your person, with a text that’s already written
08
It helps you put walls up.
A protection plan walks you through the walls that work: a deposit limit at every book, a gambling block at your bank, a blocker on your phone, and more, with exactly where to tap.
Your free week is the 7-Day Reset: seven steps to have done by day 7, in this order. Then the rest of your first 30 days has a plan too, and a promise at the end: bet less than before, or your first payment back, when you use Lessen the way it asks.

Also in the app
Two goals, one app: Quit Mode counts a run of clean days; Lessen Mode holds a weekly budget. The numbers never mix, and switching takes one clear confirmation.
And Les. The one you can ask at 2am. Les answers with your numbers, not general advice.
What it isn't
Not a blocker itself. It never locks an app or stops a payment on its own. It walks you through setting up the blockers and bank blocks that do.
Not therapy, and it will tell you when a counselor is the right call.
Not a betting tool. No odds, no picks, no scores.
Honest limits
It needs history. With fewer than 60 bets in the last 90 days, the app says it cannot estimate your risky hours yet, and asks when you would like a check-in instead.
It only sees the books you connect. A quiet record is not proof of no betting.
US sportsbooks and prediction markets, up to three accounts.
A buzz can be ignored. Lessen makes the moment easier to pass, not impossible to fail.
